The Subject
This work was inspired by nineteenth-century spiritual mediums and spirit photography. The title was inspired by artist and spiritualist medium Georgiana Houghton's book of the same name, in which she documents spiritual activity in her Victorian home.
This work is actually a self-portrait, as I used my own face as a reference for the spiritual medium. The purple aura acts as a reference to mystery and spirituality.
