The Inspiration
This is a portrait of the poet Sir Henry Taylor, after an 1867 photograph by Julia Margaret Cameron. Painted in oil, I wanted to contrast this Victorian-era portrait with a bright pink background.

The Study
What is a Study?
A study is a drawing or painting made to get your head around a subject matter in preparation for a larger work, focusing on part of an image, such as an eye or a nose, or the whole thing. A study can also be a way to practice techniques that will be used in future works (not specifically the image used to practice).
So, this work Study for Henry is a smaller version of Henry in which I practiced the composition and the colour tones.
